2021 Ford F-150 Review - Whenever an automaker redesigns a core model, it’s faced with a choice – significant changes or incremental fine-tuning. Ford used the first tactic when it introduced the aluminum-bodied 2015 F-150, which implemented advanced materials and construction methods to cut a whopping 700 pounds of overall weight.
The 2021 Ford F-150 does feature one massively noteworthy enhancement, the so-called PowerBoost hybrid powertrain. Although it’s not the first parallel-hybrid pickup – that honor goes to the 2009 Chevrolet Silverado Hybrid – the PowerBoost F-150 should be a much more successful application of electrified technology.
But perhaps level amend is the being's touchstone Pro Power Onboard system, which provides a 2.4-kW inverter that delivers 20 amps of 110-volt energy for powering a job or site. Requisite 30 amps of 220-volt commonwealth? Upgrade your PowerBoost motortruck to the 7.2-kW inverter. Can't vacillation the toll of the luxuriant hybrid? A 2.0-kW 110-volt inverter is offered on all but the signifier 3.3L V-6 and the ice. It automatically starts and idles the engine as necessary to power your devices.
The most aerodynamic F-150 ever gets a new active front air dam that retracts at low off-road speed and drops 3.1 or 3.5 inches (2WD or 4WD models) at speeds above 40-45 mph. Out on the open road, the F-150 is smooth and polished, even the base-model XL we sampled briefly on the freeway. Even the base F-150 gets a manual tilt and telescoping wheel, with power adjustability available on higher trims.
It's not quite the quantum leap that the 2015 motortruck was, but the 2021 Fording F-150 boasts concordant refinements in drivability, comfort, application, and efficiency that hold it underway against the wonderful Ram 1500 and constant Chevrolet Silverado 1500. Not only is it all but warranted to resource its vest, but the F-150 might yet convince many otherwise firewood loyalists to the Blueish Oval.
2021 F-150 XL price is $30,635. The base model F-150 is a regular-cab truck with a 6-foot-5-inch bed powered by Ford's 3.3-liter V-6 paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission.
